We absolutely love cooking and I cook from scratch most evenings for Mia and then again for Mario and I. I don’t think you can beat home cooking if you have the time and we save money by cooking in bulk and freezing the leftovers ready for the last week before payday, when things get a little tighter! Of course we still have our ‘date nights’ on a Friday night where Mario will bring home fish and chips or we get a cheeky takeaway!
Last month we were asked if we would like to try out a recipe kit and it’s something I have been meaning to sign up to for a while so we were really looking forward to the meals arriving! There are lots of these types of boxes around at the moment but we were sent a Gousto recipe kit to try out. We have been Cooking with Gousto!
With Gousto, you can choose 2, 3, or 4 meals for 2 or 4 people and get everything you need to create them at home, sent straight to your door! I sometimes lose a bit of confidence when choosing meals for us as a family and struggle to get inspiration for new meal choices so this seems a really simple way to get my cooking mojo back!
There are around 22 different meals to choose from a week so there is definitely something for everyone! You don’t need to know what you’re doing as everything is sent out to you along with recipe cards giving you step by step instructions for how to create your meal.
The majority of the ingredients are sourced fresh from farms in Lincolnshire and only from trusted partners so you know you are getting the best top quality food for your meals. We chose to create the Melty Welsh Rarebit Burger as I make a mean burger myself at home and the Chicken, Red Pepper and Lemongrass Curry as I haven’t cooked with lemongrass before and curry is a favourite in our house!
I was really impressed when the box arrived, sent with protective biodegradable packaging and cooling elements to keep all of your ingredients fresh even if you’re not going to be at home.
Cooking with Gousto
We created the Melty Welsh Rarebit Burger first. It was really easy to cook and the recipe cards are really easy to follow. With everything sent in the box, you literally don’t need anything else! We did enjoy the burger but felt there wasn’t enough seasoning for us as I make my own lovely burgers to taste normally. Next we made the Chicken, Red Pepper and Lemongrass Curry which was a bit more complicated to make with lots of chopping involved however the meal was absolutely stunning! It’s by far one of the best currys we have ever had and will definitely be cooking it again!
These boxes are ideal for busy people that love to cook proper, homemade meals but don’t have the time to think about it too much or spend hours in the kitchen. If I was working full time, I think we would definitely use Gousto a couple of nights a week and with no commitment and the ability to pause or cancel your subscription at any time, it is well worth signing up to! So get Cooking with Gousto!
