I was a bit late to the party in terms of starting to wear make-up and styling my hair! It wasn’t until I was around 14/15 that I realised that I was interested in make-up colours and styles when my mum took me for a make-over to teach me about how to apply make-up properly. It was one of the best experiences of my life and one which I will definitely do with Mia as not only did it teach me about what colours suit my skin tone but also how to actually apply my make-up without looking like I have  been ‘tangoed’ or not blending my foundation in properly. I also learnt how to take care of my skin and I have always had really good, clear skin and never left my make-up on overnight no matter what time I rolled in, in my 20’s! The only issue is that I haven’t changed my ‘look’ for a long while and coming up to 30; I’m still using very similar products and colours that I was at 15. As I get older and my skin ultimately changes I know my make-up routine will change so when Raul E got in touch to see if I would like to review their new york signature shadow eye shadow quad, I was looking forward to seeing what they have to offer.

Raul E is a New York brand of cosmetics founded in 2010 by Silvana Penavić, who offers an elegant, timeless classic selection of mineral based make-ups. Her idea was to create coordinated, wearable shades which can create a number of looks. I chose the Naturalist quad as I prefer colours which aren’t too bright and will go with different outfits. Each eye shadow contains vitamin A, C and E, are paraben-free and hypoallergenic. This means that they help to protect skin cells from damage and are ‘soft’ on the skin. Each shade has a shimmer, metallic, pearl and matte texture which blend to define the eyes and help them stand out.

The eye shadow quads mean that you can build up and blend your colour for either day or evening wear. I started off with a look for the day and used the neutral base colour to cover my entire eyelid and then built up the darker shades on the crease of the eye. For the evening, I went darker still on the outer corner of the eye, and used the shimmer shade on the brow bone to add more definition. When blended the overall look is lovely. For an even more dramatic look you can apply the eye shadow wet or use as a liner. I like the fact you can build up the colour gradually as I’m not one for really dramatic, dark make-up but I like my eyes to stand out as I think they are my best feature!

There are 6 different quad colours available as well as make-up for the face and lips. I love the colours I chose , the suit my skin tone and go well with my blue eyes. The fact I can take 1 compact with me whenever I’m out is great so I can build up the colour depending on the occasion. For £33 I would definitely buy from Raul E in the future when I want high quality, occasion make-up. They have a really nice range of cosmetics and I can already see bits and pieces I would like to try next!
