Mario and I love cheese; it’s probably the 1 thing (apart from chocolate for me!) that we could never live without! Most of our Friday night meals include a selection of meats and cheeses as a starter and I have loved warm Camembert and baguette for ages now. In fact that was the first thing I had to eat once I had given birth as I couldn’t eat it whilst pregnant! So when I saw that Le Rustique, one of our favourite Camembert produces, were looking for people to try out some amazing Camembert and Brie recipes, I was (as sad as it may sound!) genuinely excited and when I told Mario what we were doing, he was also as excited!

Le Rustique has been creating beautiful cheeses since it all started in 1975 with the perfecting of the Camembert. Brie soon followed and now we recognise Le Rustique as being simple yet authentic due to its wooden box with heat-branded design and red and white Gingham cloth. When the cheese box arrived, I was really pleased to see we had 4 Camembert’s and 2 Brie’s ready and waiting for us to create some amazing recipes!

First up Mario wanted to recreate one of his favourite recipes that I had never had! The Baked Camembert Loaf combines 2 of my favourite things; Camembert cheese and bread!

Next we tried out the 4 recipes we were sent the cheese to try out and I have to say, we will definitely be making them ALL again! The Camembert and Apple Scones with Honey Butter, although did not rise very well due to me not cutting them big enough, were lovely and kept for 7 days after in an airtight box. They were perfect for lunch or a quick snack!

Second we tried the Camembert and Hazelnut Parcels with Quick Fruit and Honey Chutney which again was amazing! I actually preferred to let these go colder as the hazelnut created a lovely crunch against the baked Camembert and puff pastry. I have never made my own chutney before so I was really pleased how this one turned out and the house smelt gorgeous for ages!

Thirdly we made the Camembert “Scotch Eggs” Two Ways with Honey and Mustard Dip which although I put too much mustard into the dip for my own personal taste, the Camembert eggs were stunning! I think this recipe is my new favourite!

Last of all we made Brie de Caractère Tartlets with Honey Onion Relish which were right up my street with the sweetness of the tartlets matched perfectly to the relish, we will definitely be making these again!

We have thoroughly enjoyed creating these great recipes and getting to taste the highest quality Camembert and Brie cheeses. Le Rustique is a firm favourite of ours and you can even have a go at making your own as all of the recipes can be found at Le Rustique or at the links above. If not, you can still enjoy both Camembert and Brie with fresh bread or even with crackers!
